The rupee mathematics, and why it changes everything
Feel this number before you book anything. The OET fee is set in Australian dollars, not rupees, so what you pay moves with the exchange rate. The full test is AU$587, which at the rate on 23 September 2026 is about 138,000 Sri Lankan rupees per attempt. For most government sector nurses, that is not a fee. That is months of salary. Some families borrow for it. Some sell things for it. Check the live fee and the live rate on the day you book.
Now understand what that number should do to your strategy. In richer countries, students sit the exam casually, just to see it. On this island, one casual attempt is a season of income burned for a look. Taking OET from Sri Lanka
The test runs at venues in Colombo, on paper and on computer, and there is the at home option. Check the live venue list when you book, because it changes. And read this line twice, because it decides destinations. OET at home works only for the UK. Australia refuses it. New Zealand refuses it. Ireland refuses it. The four Sri Lankan traps
