Quick answer: this is a free OET Writing sample for radiography. Two complete cases, each with the full case notes and the writing task, set out exactly as they appear in the exam and written fresh for 2026. It opens right here on this page and the PDF is free to download, with no email needed. The complete 2026 radiography set holds fifteen full cases inside my course.
Radiography is the profession most likely to be handed a letter type it has never seen. Explaining a delay and answering a complaint are both examined, and neither appears in a single recycled file. The 2026 paper gives denser notes, harder selection decisions, and letter types well beyond the simple referral. So these are mine: written in house, calibrated to the 2026 difficulty index, in the exact exam format, the case notes and the writing task, five minutes reading, forty minutes writing, a body of 180 to 200 words.
What is inside this free sample
| Case | Writing task | Letter type | What it trains |
|---|---|---|---|
| No. 1 | Explanation, a delayed mobile chest X ray | Letter of explanation | Reconstructing events from department logs and explaining them professionally. |
| No. 2 | Complaint response, emergency X ray waiting time | Response to a complaint | Answering a complaint with policy, staffing facts, and the actions taken. |
Look at the letter types before anything else. The 2026 exam is not only referral letters, and these two cases train the range your own profession actually meets.
How to practise with these cases
Write under real exam conditions, always. Five minutes reading the case notes and deciding what to pick and what to leave out. Forty minutes writing, no dictionary, no help. A body of 180 to 200 words. Then judge yourself against the six criteria the exam actually uses: Purpose, Content, Conciseness and Clarity, Genre and Style, Organisation and Layout, and Language.
Use the free systems on this site while you train: the complete letter structure with the Rearrangement Logic and the Three Things Introduction, the sentence system with the starter frames and the connector chain, and the full Writing map with the Criteria Map.
The step most students skip, and it is the one that clears the exam
You wrote the letter. Now the real question: was that a 300 letter or a 380 letter? You cannot see your own mistakes, which is exactly why they repeat for attempt after attempt. My correction programme takes your real letters and returns them marked against all six criteria, mistake by mistake, so every letter you write teaches you the next one.
Write the free case above, then send the letter for correction. That loop, write, get corrected, write again, is how my students clear the Writing sub test.
